Spring Is Here!

But, so are lice..

Ah Spring! How we love the smell of flowers but hate the reaction to pollen.. oh! and head lice! Unfortunately head lice is most common during seasonal breaks like Spring, Summer, and Winter where kids engage in more social activities.

How do we tell our kids "no hugging your friends!" or "Don't play too close!"? The facts are.. it goes in one ear and out of the other as they aren't thinking about lice infestations when having fun! So what can you do?

I'll Tell Ya!

Try your best to keep their hair in buns or a braid and always, and I mean always, use lice prevention products while they're engaging in any goup activities. That being school, camp, sports, slumber parties - all the fun stuff we miss when we were little humans.

In the last few years, the CDC has become extremely lenient with their guidelines for schools regarding headlice that include No Early Dismissal if lice is found on a student. This is a huge risk in the wellbeing of other students and families that don't have the luxury of time and/or finances to treat their child of headlice if it is found.

Now, I'm not talking about the lice solutions that smell like raid that burn your scalp, I'm talking about Nature vs. Nature. There's absolutely no need to eradicate lice with chemicals when natural herbs do the job!

As you may have seen, we sell both prevention and treatment products here in our Online Store. They're non-toxic, freshly scented, and safe for daily use or if you need professional help or advice give us a ring! We also offer professional lice removal services in the comfort of your own home. You can book on our site or call our number.

Now let's talk about HOW it's spread

Lice is typically only spread through head-to-head contact so, if you or your child have lice, it's less likely from a hotel room and most likely from a close friend or family member.

Oh and don't think that lice are only spread amongst children, adults contract lice too! Yup, they don't discriminate.. unless your bald, in which case, you're a lucky duck and no they cannot infest facial hair, that is actually pubic lice, which is way past our pay grade. You'll need a good prescribed cream for that! Thankfully, pubic lice is A LOT less common this day and age.

If you're a teacher, a behavioral therapist, a counselor, or a nanny, you also should be taking preventative measures. Keep your hair up and if you can help it, keep a fair distance from a school aged child who may be showing signs of head lice. Use a lice preventative solution to deter lice from residing on your dome!

Signs of head lice may include:

  • Bites on nape of neck

  • Itchy scalp

  • Off-White Sesame sized debris in the hair that DOES NOT flake off, these would be nits (lice eggs)

  • Extreme matting of the hair

  • Bugs on scalp or in hair

I've treated children as little as 6 months to adults as (not) old as 83. Absolutely anyone can get lice and those little buggers crawl pretty fast from one hair shaft to the next, though on surfaces? not too much, they have pretty stubby legs and only live up to 2 days without a host.

Thanks for reading! Until next time, my friends!
